YOU FEEL BEST WHEN YOU ARE FLOWING INSIDE.

You need a practice that allows all of your tissues to open and breathe. At Prajna Yoga, we designed a totally unique body of work to support ease, joy, and flow in the body. SATYA (Sensory Awareness Training for Yoga Attunement) is like a combination of dance, yin yoga, Feldenkrais, and myofascial release. This practice reduces fatigue by filling the body in prana. In order to sustain a practice for many decades, SATYA practice is a must.

Sensory Awareness Training for Yoga Attunement (SATYA) are movements that complement asana training. Yoga students and teachers, mind-body therapists, and people in the healing arts benefit greatly from this training.

There are three programs within the SATYA certification program where we practice fine articulated movement to open new pathways of perception and feeling. For students who want to become a Certified Prajna SATYA Teacher, you must attend SATYA 1-3, elective classes or lectures, and complete the outlined practicum to complete the 150 hour certification requirements.

SATYA 1:

It is time to open up a whole other dimension of movement. SATYA will add depth and somatic sophistication to your practice…and it is so healing. Designed and developed by Tias Little after 30 years of education, practice, study, and research, SATYA is a somatic practice that builds mindfulness through movement. We practice fine articulated movement to open new pathways of perception and feeling. Done mostly on the floor, SATYA involves sliding, gliding, stretching, unwinding, and core building movements. The movements are a powerful tonic to reduce fatigue, strain, and tension in the body. SATYA acts as a “prana pump” to oxygenate the bloodstream and irrigate the tissues.

While yoga today often emphasizes the “doing” of a posture, SATYA encourages “being” in a movement with heightened awareness. Our aim is to tap an inner potency and to help support the body’s innate intelligence and capacity to self-regulate. All movements increase proprioceptive awareness and neuroplasticity. This practice is a therapeutic, yin tonic for the body and can be done in conjunction with savasana and yoga nidra.

Course of Study:

  • Build sensory-motor awareness through small movements out of gravity
  • Learn the way SATYA movements benefit the lower back
  • Learn how effective this work is for aging populations and for people with injury
  • Study the effects of SATYA on the iliopsoas and spine
  • Learn how SATYA effects the five myofascial sheaths
  • Practice “soaking” the tissues to heal
  • Learn the power of the “The Pause” and experience the importance of not doing
  • Practice SATYA to reduce fatigue
  • Study the importance of spirals and counter spirals in SATYA movement
  • “It’s all about the joints”: working with the tendons, ligaments, and joint spaces
  • Learn how to “ride the changing edge” through small movements

*SATYA 1 is a prerequisite for SATYA 2 and SATYA 3.

*SATYA 1 can be applied towards required hours for the 300/500-Hour Program and the Yoga Therapy Program

Upcoming dates: September 14 – 25, 2022

SATYA 2:

Once you have felt the power of SATYA you will want to continue to soak in further. Here you will learn more complex sequencing, more nuanced variations of movement, and more about the physiological benefits. For those wishing to integrate SATYA into their teaching, SATYA 2 and 3 are a must. In this course, you will learn how to design SATYA sequences and assist movements to facilitate greater myofascial release.

In-depth Sensory Awareness Training for Yoga Attunement (SATYA) practices compliment asana practice while deeply restoring the body. They open the joint spaces, build sensory-motor awareness, re-educate the neural-muscular system and help develop bi-lateral symmetry.

This training lays out the essentials for how to sequence the SATYA movements and how to combine them with asana. We learn how to practice and teach the movements beginning with the simplest forms and leading to greater complexity. We study the healing potential of the movements and their effects on the Five Sheaths.

Course of Study:

  • Learn to use SATYA movements to prepare the body for asana
  • Design SATYA sequences to release specific areas of the body (e.g., lower back, hips, shoulders, and neck)
  • Learn to manually assist the SATYA movements to stretch the myofascial
  • Design SATYA sequences that include both SATYA and asana
  • Learn how SATYA adjusts the spinal joints: ligaments, facets, and tendons
  • Study how SATYA supports pulsatory rhythms in the body
  • Discover how SATYA works as a kind of “visceral manipulation”
  • Learn how SATYA supports circulation of blood and lymph
  • Learn how to heal the body through savasana and SATYA
  • Dharma practice: Working with Hindrances

*To be eligible for SATYA 2, students must have completed SATYA 1.

*SATYA 2 can be applied towards required hours for the Prajna Yoga Therapy Program

Upcoming dates: January 25 – February 5, 2023

SATYA 3:

SATYA is so very therapeutic. The non-weight bearing movements are a perfect complement to weight-bearing in asana.

SATYA 3 investigates the therapeutic benefits of SATYA on the nervous system, endocrine system, digestion, and circulation in order to heal the subtle body.We specifically review SATYA’s effects on the autonomic nervous system and how SATYA can heal trauma in the body. Much focus is given to working with the neck, cranium, eyes, and inner ear. Students will learn how to utilize SATYA therapeutically with individual clients.

At the conclusion of SATYA 3, students who wish to complete the SATYA Certification design and fulfill a final practicum, using SATYA as a therapeutic modality.

Course of Study:

  • Learn how SATYA builds neuroplasticity in the body
  • Learn the effects of SATYA on the craniosacral system, the eyes, the vestibular system of the inner ear, and the brain
  • Practice on releasing the mandible, TMJ strain, and the tongue
  • Use SATYA as preparation for pranayama by strengthening the intercostal muscle
  • Study the effects of SATYA on the autonomic nervous system and Vagus Nerve
  • How SATYA therapeutically benefits muscular-skeletal strain and dysfunction
  • Learn the benefits of SATYA on trauma held in the body
  • Learn how to address head trauma through SATYA
  • Learn how to adapt SATYA for pregnancy

*To be eligible for SATYA 3, students must have completed SATYA 1 and 2.

*SATYA 3 can be applied towards required hours for the Prajna Yoga Therapy Program

Upcoming dates: March 22 – April 2, 2023

SATYA CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • To complete the Prajna SATYA Teacher Certification, each student is required to complete 150 hours of training with Prajna. The 150 hours is comprised of:
    • SATYA 1 – 3 Online (45 hours each) totaling 135 hours
    • 15 hours of Practicum
  • The Practicum is an opportunity for students to work with individual clients, practice offering SATYA movements for therapeutic applications, and assess the effectiveness of the treatments.
  • Students earn 15 Practicum hours in a combination of self practice review, work with clients/students, audio record of a guided SATYA session, and review of the therapeutic benefit of the SATYA movements.
  • Details on the hours to be earned, the submission format, and hours will be discussed in the SATYA 3 training.
  • Upon review of the submitted Practicum students receive a certificate and are certified to teach SATYA.
